     ALEXANDRIA, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis capped a 4-0 performance at the LSUA Tournament with a 7-0 victory Saturday morning against John Brown.
     XULA's 7-1 record to start the season is its best since 2015.
     Santiago Perez, Shaikh Abdullah, Juan Batalla, Samir Chikhaoui and Sebastian Perez won in doubles and singles. Sebastian Perez clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Blake Cunningham on the sixth singles court.
     Batalla defeated Samuel Spencer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Batalla won 6-0 in the second set of all four of his singles matches at this tournament.
     John Brown is 3-7.
     The Gold Rush will play three times next week: 3 p.m. Thursday against NAIA No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan and 3 p.m. Friday against Montreat — Hattiesburg, Miss., will be the venue for those two matches — and 9 a.m. Saturday at XULA Tennis Center (3619 Pine St., zip 70125) against NAIA No. 25 Lewis-Clark State.
