NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis defeated Lewis-Clark State 6-1
Saturday morning for its third victory of the season against an NAIA top-25 opponent.
The Gold Rush, 9-1 and ranked second in the NAIA, have won seven in a row overall and
12 straight at XULA Tennis Center in a streak that began in 2018. The Warriors (3-8) are ranked 25th.
XULA won every match except No. 6 singles. Winning in doubles and singles for the
Gold Rush were
Santiago Perez,
Shaikh Abdullah,
Juan Batalla,
Samir Chikhaoui
and
Guillermo Coiras. Chikhaoui clinched with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Roberto Salazar on the fourth court.
"Our guys played well and took care of business," said
Alan Green, XULA head coach
and director of tennis. "I liked the focus today, and that is
something we need to continue to do. We are getting a pretty good idea of who we are
as a team and how we want to play."
The Gold Rush will travel to NCAA Division I Nicholls State for a 1 p.m. match March 15.
