NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis defeated Lewis-Clark State 6-1 Saturday morning for its third victory of the season against an NAIA top-25 opponent.
The Gold Rush, 9-1 and ranked second in the NAIA, have won seven in a row overall and 12 straight at XULA Tennis Center in a streak that began in 2018. The Warriors (3-8) are ranked 25th.
XULA won every match except No. 6 singles. Winning in doubles and singles for the Gold Rush were Santiago Perez, Shaikh Abdullah, Juan Batalla, Samir Chikhaoui and Guillermo Coiras. Chikhaoui clinched with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Roberto Salazar on the fourth court.
"Our guys played well and took care of business," said Alan Green, XULA head coach and director of tennis. "I liked the focus today, and that is something we need to continue to do. We are getting a pretty good idea of who we are as a team and how we want to play."
The Gold Rush will travel to NCAA Division I Nicholls State for a 1 p.m. match March 15.
