Santiago Perez, Abdullah win in singles and doubles, but West Florida prevails 5-2

        PENSACOLA, Fla. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Santiago Perez and Shaikh Abdullah won in singles and doubles Sunday, but West Florida prevailed 5-2 in a matchup of top-10 men's tennis teams Sunday.
        XULA (3-6), ranked 10th in the NAIA, lost to the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
        Perez and Abdullah won in three sets at the top two singles flights. Perez defeated Serdar Bojadjiev, ranked 11th in D2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, and Abdullah defeated Salvador Bandeira 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Perez is ranked 13th and Abdullah 18th in the NAIA.
        Although West Florida (6-2) won the doubles point, Perez and Abdullah defeated Bandeira and Gabriel Nery (UWF) 6-4 on the first court.
        XULA will drive east on Interstate-10 again this week to play four Southern States Athletic Conference duals in three days, starting with a 4 p.m. Thursday match against NAIA No. 12 Mobile.
