        THIBODAUX, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis, stung by close defeats Friday and Saturday that cost it a regular-season conference championship, bounced back strongly Sunday with a 4-0 victory against NCAA Division I member Nicholls.
        XULA (6-8) is ranked 11th in the NAIA. Nicholls is 4-6.
        It was the fifth consecutive time that XULA defeated Nicholls and the third straight time on the road. It was 
Alan Green's 40th victory as head coach against an NCAA Division I men's opponent; this is Green's 18th season.
        XULA outscored Nicholls by a combined 17-0 in the four most recent meetings.
        
Juan Varon, 
Santiago Perez and 
Shaikh Abdullah won in doubles and singles for XULA. Abdullah clinched on the second singles court with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Piyush Surendra Salekar.
        Varon beat Antonio Sasso 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Perez defeated Pavle Drobnjakovic 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1.
        Perez and Abdullah clinched the doubled point with a 6-4 decision against Drobnjakovic and Omar Morsy. Varon and 
Juan Ramirez produced the other doubles victory, 6-1 against Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado and Antoine Martin-Thiriat.
        The XULA men will play host to Nicholls at 2 p.m. March 31, then travel to Mobile, Ala., for the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament April 15-17.
