Megh Patel 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-1 on the third singles court Wednesday to give Union (Ky.) a 4-3 men's tennis
victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the round of 16 at the NAIA National Championship
tournament.
XULA (13-11), ranked sixth in the coaches poll and seeded seventh,
made its earliest exit in this tournament in 10 years. XULA was the national runner-up in 2016, 2017 and 2019,
a semifinalist in 2018 and a quarterfinalist four straight years from 2012-15.

The Bulldogs (10-7) avenged a 4-2 loss to XULA at
the IWU Invitational April 9.
It was a roller-coaster season for XULA, which was
No. 2 in the preseason rankings, fell from the top 10 in mid-March after 80 consecutive appearances dating to 2011,
then rebounded with a pair of victories against NCAA Division I Nicholls and four more against
ranked NAIA teams, three in the top eight.
