Gold Rush defeat 2021 NJCAA champion, then lose to Ragin' Cajuns

        LAFAYETTE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana, ranked 10th in the NAIA men's tennis, opened its spring-semester schedule Saturday with a 4-3 exhibition victory against Tyler Junior College, then a 4-0 loss to NCAA Division I Louisiana-Lafayette.
        Against Tyler — 13-0 and the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association champion — Megh Patel won in doubles and singles. Guillermo Coiras and Dedric Ray clinched the doubles point, and Patel clinched the dual with his 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-5) victory against Alvaro Saint Martin at No. 3 singles.
        Jacobi Bain won his singles match against Tyler's Mika Fisher in straight sets — Bain won the first-set tiebreaker 18-16.
        Against the Ragin' Cajuns, XULA three-year All-American Santiago Perez led his No. 1 singles match 6-6 (3-0) against Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez when the Cajuns clinched.
        Both XULA teams will play at home at 3 p.m. Friday against city rival Dillard, which is playing tennis for the first time since 2005.
