        ROME, Ga. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Jacobi Bain won 6-2, 6-1 Thursday against Daniel Vishnick of Cardinal Stritch in the opening round of NAIA men's singles at the ITA Cup tennis championships.
        XULA's other men's singles entry, Mathieu Strauss, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Georgia Gwinnett's Paras Dahiya.
        Bain will play in the main-draw quarterfinals at noon EDT Friday against Georgia Gwinnett's second-seeded Alex Gurmendi, a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Keiser's Shaheed Alam. Strauss will play a consolation match against Keiser's Martin Carrizo, a 7-5, 7-6 (7-0) loser to top-seeded Perry Gregg of Holy Cross (Ind.)
