        NEW ORLEANS —
Blair Frederick's
three-run homer Saturday sparked a seven-run third inning that powered Xavier
University of Louisiana to a 9-7 victory against Houston-Victoria in the opener
of a Red River Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

	        The Jaguars gained a split
with a 15-2 victory in the second game and won the series two games to one.

Frederick's home run, his first of
the season, broke a tie at 1 and put the Gold Rush ahead to stay. Additional
key hits in the third — XULA's most producive inning since nine runs in the
bottom of the first against Tougaloo on opening day — were

Courtland Posey's RBI triple,
Zachary Elias' sacrifice fly and
Deionte Norris' run-scoring single.

			          XULA right-hander
Nigel Mayfield pitched
five innings to earn the victory, and
Ryan Kinney allowed no runs
in the final two innings for the save.

Matt Muhleisen doubled home
D'Aires Davis
for a 1-0 XULA lead in the first inning of the second game, but the Jaguars (8-6 overall, 4-2
RRAC) tied the score in second inning, then pulled away with five runs in the third
inning and five in the fifth. Ty Williams had three RBIs for the Jaguars, two on a fifth-inning double.

The 15 runs were the most XULA allowed
in a game since its return to varsity competition in 2021. The second game was stopped
after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

XULA (6-7, 3-3) will travel to Shreveport, La.,
for a three-game RRAC series Friday and Saturday at NAIA No. 10 LSU-Shreveport.
