NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana opened its baseball season Saturday with a nine-run first inning and a 14-3 victory against Tougaloo at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
D'Aires Davis had six RBIs on a grand slam that ended the first-inning scoring and a two-run triple in the fourth. Matt Muhleisen doubled home the first two runs,
Deionte Norris had two sacrifice flies, and
Zachary Elias hit a pair of RBI doubles.
Starter
Blair Frederick (four innings) and
Kedrick Edwards combined for 11 strikeouts.
The game ended after 6 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.
It also was the opener for Tougaloo, which will return to Barrow to play two seven-inning games against the Gold Rush starting at noon Sunday. This is the second season of XULA baseball after no teams from 1961-2020.
