NEW ORLEANS —
Courtland Posey's three-run homer for Xavier University of Louisiana in the eighth inning tied the score,
but Southwest (N.M.) answered with a three-run ninth Saturday to secure an 8-5 victory
and remain unbeaten in Red River Athletic Conference games.
The teams will conclude their three-game series with a noon Sunday doubleheader at Barrow.
The Mustangs (17-3 overall, 10-0 RRAC) lead the league by one
game over LSU-Shreveport (21-2, 9-1). XULA (8-11, 3-7) is tied for ninth place with Jarvis Christian out of 12 teams.
Dillon Cousin and
Skyler Roberts drove in the first two Gold Rush runs,
and
Deionte Norris and
Andre Beaudoin had two hits apiece. Posey and
Matt Muhleisen each scored twice.
