Juan Ramirez won in doubles and singles Friday, and
Megh Patel
provided the clinching victory for
Xavier University
of Louisiana's men in a 4-0
decision against city rival Dillard at XULA Tennis Center.
The XULA men (11-4)
extended their home winning streak, which began in 2018, to 23.
The Gold Rush are ranked fifth in the NAIA coaches poll, and in the ITA NAIA
individual rankings, Perez is first and Ramirez 35th in singles.
Perez and Ramirez are No. 2 in doubles.
Perez and Ramirez defeated
Boris Aguma and Yassine Ben Jemaa 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.
Juan Ramirez made it 2-0 with his 6-1, 6-1 singles victory against Aguma,
and Perez followed with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Ben Jemaa.
Patel clinched by beating Felix Hamp 6-2, 6-0.
XULA's other victory was at No. 3 doubles, where
Juan Varon and
Guillermo Coiras beat Youssef Berrajah and
Pranav Mehta 6-1.
Dillard is 1-7 in its first tennis season
since 2005 and 0-2 against the Gold Rush.
XULA traveled to Pensacola, Fla.,
after the victory to prepare for a 10 a.m. Saturday match against
West Florida, ranked 12th in NCAA Division II.
