Box score

SHREVEPORT, La. — A five-run first inning and a seven-run sixth propelled NAIA No. 10 LSU-Shreveport to a 13-2 victory Friday against Xavier University of Louisiana in the opener of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference baseball series.
The game was halted after 6 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.
The Gold Rush (6-8 overall, 3-4 RRAC) and the Pilots (17-2, 6-1) will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
Co Co Simoneaux scored XULA's first run — it was unearned — on a sixth-inning error after his leadoff double and a steal of third base. Damian Lantigua's fielder's choice in the seventh scored Dillon Cousin with the second run.
Allbry Major of LSUS hit a bases-loaded triple in the first inning. The Pilots' Trevor Burkhart and Julian Flores hit two-run homers in the sixth.
Winning pitcher Bobby Vath, a sophomore right-hander, struck out 12 in seven innings.
Elsewhere Friday, Southwest (N.M.) won 8-7 at home against Houston-Victoria to maintain its RRAC lead. The Mustangs are 7-0 in the league. Louisiana Christian is 7-1 after 21-0 and 17-0 victories at Texas College. LSUS is in third place.
