        GULF SHORES, Ala. — AnnMarie McAfee's pinch-hit RBI single sparked a three-run eighth inning Sunday that rallied Thomas to an 8-5 softball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the GCI Tournament.
        The Gold Nuggets, the home team in this neutral-site game, led 5-4 with one out and the bases empty in the seventh before the Night Hawks tied the score on Michaela Farr's sacrifice fly, which followed two singles.
        XULA trailed 3-0 through 2 1/2 innings, then tied the score in the fourth when Alexis Richardson doubled home Vivionna Robles and Madison Winston singled home Richardson. Thomas took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, then XULA grabbed its first lead, 5-4, in the sixth when Alison Curlin singled home Richardson and Tamia Washington doubled home Curlin.
        Washington, Richardson and Robles had two hits apiece. Winston walked twice, and she and Robles stole two bases apiece. It was Washington's fourth consecutive two-hit game.
        XULA committed six errors and allowed three unearned runs. Thomas outhit the Gold Nuggets 12-8; Farr went 4-for-4 and scored twice.
        Thomas is 11-6 with a five-game win streak. XULA is 5-14 and has lost six in a row. Next for the Gold Nuggets will be Red River Athletic Conference home doubleheaders at 3 p.m. Friday against Texas College and noon Saturday against Jarvis Christian. Venue will be the softball facility behind the outfield wall at Wesley Barrow Stadium (6500 Press Drive, zip 70126).
