NEW ORLEANS —
Our Lady of the Lake hit and and pitched its way Saturday
to a Red River Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of
Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Saints won 8-1
in the first game, then 9-0 in the second to win the series two games to one.
XULA won 2-1 Friday.
OLLU had six extra-base hits,
including two home runs, in each of the Saturday games. The Saints'
Trey Ramirez went the distance in the seven-inning first game, then
Jacob Mitchell, Joshua Mendez and Ziegen Farley combined on a nine-inning shutout.
Mitchell, the second-game winning pitcher,
homered in each game.
OLLU led 2-0 through five innings
in the opener, then scored five in the sixth.
Zachary Elias' sixth-inning
homer produced XULA's only run of the day.
XULA's
Deionte Norris and
Matt Muhleisen
had two hits apiece in the second game.
It was XULA's second shutout loss
in its last four games.
XULA is 16-19 overall and 12-14 in the RRAC.
OLLU is 23-20 and 15-10. Next for the Gold Rush will be a 5 p.m. Tuesday
game against city rival Loyola at Wesley Barrow Stadium, then a
three-game RRAC home series starting Friday against Jarvis Christian.
