WESTWEGO, La. —
Gabriel Trastoy and Aaron Davis hit home runs, and Christopher Bohrer
had a season-high four RBIs Tuesday to lead city rival Loyola to a
16-2 baseball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The game was moved from
Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans — XULA's home facility —
because of a scheduling conflict. XULA and Loyola played in the Wolf Pack's
home facility, Segnette Field, and the Gold Rush batted second.
Loyola (26-17) never trailed
and scored six runs in the third inning and three apiece in the
fourth, fifth and sixth. The Wolf Pack collected 12 hits and 12 walks against
three pitchers.
XULA (16-20) scored both its runs
in the fourth inning to cut Loyola's lead to 10-2.
Courtland Posey singled
home
Matt Muhleisen with the first run, then
Skyler Roberts singled home Posey.
The 16 runs were the most XULA
allowed in a game since its return to intercollegiate competition in 2021.
It was the third consecutive game that the Gold Rush allowed two homers.
XULA will play this week its final home games
of the season — a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series against
Jarvis Christian. The Gold Rush and Bulldogs will play at 5 p.m. Friday,
then a noon Saturday doubleheader.
