SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Dedric Ray and
Juan Ramirez won in doubles and singles Friday morning
to lead fifth-ranked Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis to a 4-0
victory against Our Lady of the Lake in the quarterfinals of an
NAIA unaffiliated group tournament.
The Gold Rush — 17-5 with a six-match
winning streak and seeded first in this 13-team, four-round event —
will play fourth-seeded Missouri Valley in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The championship round will start at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Ray and
Guillermo Coiras
clinched the doubles point on the third court with their 6-3 victory
against Christopher Doyal and Johan Favelin. Ray gave XULA a 2-0 lead
when he defeated Doyal 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Ramirez and
Juan Varon beat
Murilo Salviato and Caio Ravagnani 6-2 on the second doubles court,
and Ramirez clinched at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Enzo Frequelin.
Megh Patel defeated Favelin 6-2, 6-1
on court two. Coiras and
Jacobi Bain led their matches when the dual was clinched.
Missouri Valley (14-8) advanced
with a 4-0 victory against fifth-seeded Missouri Baptist. The Vikings beat
13th-seeded Baker 4-0 in the first round Thursday.
