Zachary Elias and
Deionte Norris had three hits apiece Thursday,
and starter
Blair Frederick pitched seven innings to lead Xavier University of Louisiana
to a 10-2 victory against Texas A&M-Texarkana in the opener of a
three-game Red River Athletic Conference baseball series.
Elias doubled and tripled and had three RBIs. Norris and
D'Aires Davis scored twice.
Mark Herron had two RBIs, and Davis,
Matt Muhleisen,
Courtland Posey and
Skyler Roberts also had RBIs.
Frederick threw 125 pitches, allowed four hits and one run,
walked three, hit two batters and struck out 10.
Ryan Kinney
pitched the final two innings, including a 1-2-3, five-pitch ninth.
The Gold Rush were errorless, scored the first four runs
and pulled away with a six-run eighth inning. XULA's infield turned two double plays.
XULA is 14-16 overall and 10-11 in the RRAC;
Texas A&M-Texarkana is 24-16 and 14-8. The teams will play a noon doubleheader Friday.
