NAIA No. 5 Gold Rush win on road against NCAA Division I opponent for second straight day

        JACKSON, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis continued its mastery of NCAA Division I Jackson State with a 5-2 victory Saturday.
        The Gold Rush, 15-5 and ranked fifth in the NAIA, are 9-0 against Jackson State — 6-0 on the road — during Alan Green's 19 seasons as XULA's head coach. XULA won on the road against a Division I opponent for the second straight day; it won 4-1 Friday at Alcorn State.
        Santiago Perez and Juan Ramirez, No. 2 in the ITA NAIA rankings, clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Juan Forcada and Fransisco Vargas. Perez, ranked first among NAIA singles players, clinched the dual when he defeated Vargas 6-3, 6-3.
        Guillermo Coiras scored XULA's final point at No. 2 singles when he defeated Forcada 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
        The Gold Rush are 3-1 this season against Division I opponents. Overall the XULA men have won four straight and eight of their last nine duals.
        Next for the XULA men will be a noon Thursday home match against NAIA No. 6 William Carey at XULA Tennis Center.
