GULF SHORES, Ala. — Seth Alexander ended Xavier University of Louisiana's 2021-22 competition year with a 17th-place finish in the men's triple jump Friday at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium Complex.
Alexander, a sophomore, produced three legal jumps in the preliminaries — his initial effort, 14.51 meters/47 feet, 7 1/4 inches, was his best — but missed advancing to the final by approximately 18 inches.
Nine of the 28 jumpers qualified for final; the No. 9 mark in prelims was 14.98 meters/49 feet, 1 3/4 inches. The champion was Cumberland's Sibanda Dumoluhle, one of two jumpers to reach 50 feet. Dumoluhle did it three times, including a winning mark of 15.45/50-8 1/4 on his first jump of the final.
Alexander finished eighth in the triple jump at NAIA outdoor nationals a year ago.
Edward Angel scored the only Gold Rush points of the meet when he tied for seventh Thursday in the high jump. DaNya Horne scored the Gold Nuggets' only points when she placed seventh Friday in the discus.
