Xavier University of Louisiana's
Nereo Suarez was announced Tuesday as Red River Athletic Conference Player
of the Week in men's tennis for Feb. 13-19. It's the first award for Suarez, a freshman from Santa Fe, Argentina.
Suarez was 2-0 in singles
and 2-1 in doubles to help the Gold Rush win 2-of-3 matches at the Grizzly Invitational
in Lawrenceville, Ga. Sunday in XULA's 4-0 victory against NAIA No. 8 Lindsey Wilson,
Suarez and
Jacobi Bain clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Sebastian Junqhanns and Ilyas Coichari.
Then Suarez beat Coichari 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in singles.
Suarez and Bain clinched the doubles point in a 4-0 Friday victory against 12th-ranked Cumberland.
It's the third straight week that the Gold
Rush won the RRAC award.
Mathieu Strauss was honored for Jan. 30-Feb. 5,
and Bain won for Feb. 6-12.
Next for XULA, 5-2 and ranked fifth in the NAIA, will be
a 1 p.m. Wednesday match at seventh-ranked William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss., then three matches over Friday and Saturday
in the LSUA Tournament at Alexandria and Pineville, La.
