HATTIESBURG, Miss. — 
  In a matchup of NAIA top-10 men's tennis teams, 
William Carey
 won in three sets on the top three singles courts Wednesday in a 4-3 victory
  against Xavier University of Louisiana.
	
	        It was the season opener for 
	 the Crusaders, who are ranked seventh. Fifth-ranked XULA is 5-3 overall and 3-3
	  against ranked opponents. All three Gold Rush losses this season are against top-seven opponents.
		
	        Anton Magnusson clinched for Carey with his 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory against 
Mathieu Strauss 
 on the third singles court.
 
         
Jacobi Bain and 
Nereo Suarez clinched 
  the doubles point for XULA with a 6-4 decision against  Thomas Drapeau and 
	John Nicholas Leblanc. Strauss and 
Julius Hell earned XULA's other doubles victory,
	 6-3 against Matt Shearer and Ibrokhimjon Urinov.
	 
        Winning for XULA in singles were Hell,
 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) against Shearer on the fourth court, and 
Jered Wilson at No. 6
  in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision against Nikolas Elenkov. Wilson's victory gave XULA a 3-2 lead.
	
        The Gold Rush and Crusaders will meet 
 at noon April 1 at XULA.
 
         Next for XULA will be three matches
  in the LSUA Invitational at Alexandria and Pineville, La. The schedule:
	
        •  8 a.m. Friday vs. city rival Dillard at Pineville (Louisiana Christian University courts)
        •  2 p.m. Friday vs. Our Lady of the Lake at Pineville (LCU)
        •  2 p.m. Saturday vs. Texas Wesleyan at Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club
