NEW ORLEANS —
NAIA No. 4 LSU-Shreveport completed a three-game Red River Athletic Conference baseball sweep of
Xavier University of Louisiana with 5-4 and 16-4 victories Saturday at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
The Gold Rush led in both games — 2-1 through three innings of the opener after
Miles Peterson's
RBI groundout and
Courtland Posey's sacrifice fly, and 2-1 in the first inning of the second game
when
D'Aires Davis doubled home
Cohen Boyd, then Davis stole home. Peterson hit an RBI double in the second game, and
Cam Finn singled him home.
XULA is 11-11 overall and 3-9 in the RRAC; LSUS is 18-5 and 9-3.
The Pilots started the series in a tie for third place in the conference; they climbed to second, a half-game behind Louisiana Christian (16-5, 9-2).
XULA is in ninth place.
Next for the Gold Rush will be a three-game RRAC series against Southwest at Hobbs, N.M.:
a noon doubleheader Friday, then a noon Saturday finale. Those times are Mountain Daylight.
