For just the second time in 14 dual matches this semester, NAIA No. 8 Xavier University of Louisiana
men's tennis did not score a point. Ave Maria, ranked 13th, defeated the Gold Rush 4-0 Saturday.
The Gyrenes (3-1) snapped the five-match winning streak of the Gold Rush (10-4).
Guilherme Bento clinched on the sixth singles court with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against
Jered Wilson.
Ave Maria won in tiebreakers on the second and third courts to earn the doubles point.
XULA's
Jacobi Bain and
Nereo Suarez defeated Gustavo Cruz and Luca Cirenza 6-3 on court 1.
XULA will stay in Mobile and play NAIA No. 5 Southeastern (Fla.)
at 10 a.m. CDT Sunday, then play host to city rival Dillard at 3 p.m. Thursday.
