Semien wins his second RRAC award in three weeks

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Joseph Semien was announced Tuesday as Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week in baseball for Feb. 20-26. It's the second time in three weeks that Semien was honored.
Semien — a sophomore left-hander from Lake Charles, La., and a graduate of Barbe High School — started and won for the third consecutive Saturday. He pitched seven innings and allowed zero runs, four singles and three walks, and he struck out seven in an 8-3 RRAC victory at Huston-Tillotson.
Semien is 3-0 this season with a 1.09 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings.
XULA (9-5 overall, 3-3 RRAC) will play host to Houston-Victoria (7-13, 1-2) in a three-game RRAC series at Wesley Barrow Stadium (6500 Press Drive, zip code 70126) — 5 p.m. Friday, then a noon Saturday doubleheader. Semien is scheduled to pitch the first game Saturday.
