NEW ORLEANS —
Skylah Barton ran 4,000 meters in 18 minutes, 25.55 seconds Friday to
lead Xavier University of Louisiana women's
cross country in the University of New Orleans Opener at Lake Oaks Park.
Barton placed 54th out of 70 runners.
The Gold Nuggets had only four finishers
in this race a year ago, but this time they had seven. XULA's other six
were
Amber Parks, 60th in 19:24.80;
Fedjine Bell, 63rd in 19:51.72;
Jalyn Jenkins, 64th in 20:17.74;
A'Blesin Wilson, 68th in 22:11.63;
Kayla Jackson, 69th in 22:12.64; and
Leojai Hibbert, 70th in 25:57.64.
Tulane's Gemma Robollo
was first in 13:42.97, nearly two seconds faster than runner-up Ella Chesnut of LSU.
Seven teams scored; Tulane won with 31 points, and LSU was second with 35.
XULA was seventh with 199 points.
When the race started at 6:10 p.m. CDT it was partly cloudy, 89 degrees, heat index 99,
humidity 63 percent and wind from the southeast at 8 mph.
XULA's women and men will compete in the
Loyola (New Orleans) Triangular next Friday morning in suburban Marrero, La.
