PINEVILLE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana lost 13-3 Friday evening at Louisiana Christian in the opener of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference baseball series.
The game was called after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.
The teams will meet at noon Saturday at Billy Allgood Field — a seven-inning game, then a nine-inning game — to conclude their series. There will be no live video of the doubleheader.
The Wildcats (9-3 overall, 1-0 RRAC) had two four-run innings, including the first. XULA scored in the second inning when
Deionte Norris tripled and
Bennie Spady doubled him home. The Gold Rush (6-4, 1-2) scored twice in the fifth — pinch runner Caleb Washington scored from third base on an infield error, and
Robert Robinson's groundout scored
Miles Peterson.
XULA produced seven hits, two apiece by Spady and Alex Crews. Both reached base safely three times.
Harrison Waxley went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for the Wildcats.
SCHEDULE UPDATE: Two non-conference road doubleheaders — March 5 at Oakwood and April 9 at Arkansas Baptist — no longer are on XULA's schedule.
