NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana defeats Gold Rush

Box score

HAMMOND, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana, in its first-ever baseball game against an NCAA Division I opponent, lost 22-5 Tuesday to Southeastern Louisiana.
The Gold Rush, an NAIA member, never led. The Lions scored 11 times in the second inning, and the game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.
Robert Robinson, Dillon Cousin, Keshawn Wright and Zion Morris had one hit and one RBI apiece for the Gold Rush (6-7). Alex Crews had an RBI. Cousin's triple to center field scored Bennie Spady during a three-run fourth inning.
Bailyn Sorensen homered twice and had six RBIs for Southeastern (5-3).
XULA used six pitchers, and its final two — Alexander Arnold and Kedrick Edwards — did not allow a hit or a run over the final 2 1/3 innings.
Attendance was 1,554, the largest crowd to watch XULA baseball during the program's second era, which began in 2021.
Next for XULA will be a three-game Red River Athletic Conference home series against Huston-Tillotson. The Gold Rush and Rams will play at 5 p.m. Friday, then a noon Saturday doubleheader. The venue will be Ned Eades Field at Northshore High School in Slidell, La. — 33 miles from the XULA campus.
