Loyola defeats XULA; Gold Rush to open 3-game series Friday with Dillard

Box score

WESTWEGO, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana collected only two hits, both singles, Tuesday in a 6-2 baseball loss to Loyola at Segnette Field.
The Gold Rush (3-1) will begin a three-game series at Wesley Barrow Stadium with another city rival, Dillard, at 6 p.m. Friday. XULA and the Bleu Devils will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
XULA led 1-0 in the second inning when Zion Morris singled and scored from third base on a wild pitch, but the Wolf Pack (3-0) tied the score in that inning and went ahead to stay in the third when Brandon Mooney scored on a bases-loaded balk with two out.
XULA scored its other run in the eighth inning — it was unearned — when Robert Robinson led off with a single and scored on Dillon Cousin's fielder's choice grounder to shortstop.
The teams used a collective 12 pitchers — XULA seven, Loyola five. The Wolf Pack had a 25-9 advantage in total baserunners.
