SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU-Shreveport defeated Xavier University of Louisiana 6-0 Monday to complete a three-game sweep of a Red River Athletic Conference baseball series.
The Pilots (22-2 overall, 14-1 RRAC, ranked third in the NAIA) did not allow a run in the series.
Senior right-hander AJ Fritz (4-0) and four relievers combined on a six-hitter with one walk and 10 strikeouts. The Pilots scored in the first inning on Jose Aquino's sacrifice fly and Angel Rodriguez's RBI single.
The Gold Rush (8-14, 3-11) had six hits — doubles in the first and third innings by
Robert Robinson and singles by
Miles Peterson,
Deionte Norris,
Dillon Cousin and
Ben Adams. XULA's best chance to score was in the first inning, when Peterson singled and Robinson doubled with one out. But Fritz got the next two batters to ground out.
The victory was LSUS' 11th in a row. XULA has lost six straight.
XULA will play host to Southwest (N.M.) this weekend at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in New Orleans in a three-game RRAC series: 7 p.m. Saturday, then a noon Sunday doubleheader.
