2024 Red River Athletic Conference standings
SLIDELL, La. — Jarvis Christian hit six home runs, two apiece by Robert Addarich and Jalen Thomas, and rolled Wednesday to a 15-5 Red River Athletic Conference baseball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana at Slidell High School's Tiger Field.
The Bulldogs (16-21 overall, 12-17 RRAC) moved percentage points ahead of the Gold Rush (18-20, 11-16) in the race for the eighth and final berth for next week's RRAC Tournament at Sterlington, La. Jarvis has concluded its conference schedule, but XULA can pass the Bulldogs by winning 2-of-3 in its regular-season finale against Our Lady of the Lake.
The Gold Rush and Saints will play at 5 p.m. Friday, then a noon Saturday doubleheader. That series was moved this week to Tiger Field, and admission will be free.
Addarich's three-run homer with two out in the third inning broke a tie at 3 and put the Bulldogs ahead to stay. Nathaniel Alvarez and Jose Ramirez also homered for the Bulldogs, who snapped an eight-game losing streak.
Addarich finished 3-for-3 with five runs, five RBIs and three walks.
Robert Robinson and
Zion Morris had two RBIs apiece for XULA. Robinson had three hits, including a bases-empty homer in the seventh, and
Miles Peterson and
Deionte Norris had two hits apiece.
Morris doubled home Robinson and Norris in the first inning to give XULA its only lead, 3-2.
This was a makeup to complete a three-game series that was halted by rain in February. Jarvis Christian won the series 2 games to 1, and the Bulldogs' winning pitcher both times was starter Alejandro Gonzalez Moreno.
XULA lost four of its last five games after a season-high six-game winning streak.
