SLIDELL, La. —
Brett Atkinson's eighth-inning three-run double and reliever Jack Kalisky's three ninth-inning
strikeouts helped Our Lady of the Lake earn a 10-9 victory Friday
against Xavier University of Louisiana in the opener of a three-game
Red River Athletic Conference baseball series at Slidell High School's Tiger Field.
The Gold Rush (18-21 overall, 11-17 RRAC) and Saints (25-22, 14-14) will
meet in a noon Saturday doubleheader at Tiger Field. It will be the regular-season finale for both.
Admission will be free.
The loss dropped XULA into ninth place,
half a game behind Jarvis Christian, in the RRAC. The top eight teams will
qualify for next week's RRAC Tournament at Sterlington, La.
Atkinson's two-out double, his only hit of the game,
capped a four-run rally that erased XULA's 9-6 lead.
The Gold Rush had runners on second and third base
in the bottom of the ninth when Kalisky struck out the final two batters and notched his third save this season.
XULA took its first lead, 7-2, during a five-run
third inning that included four unearned runs and RBIs by
Miles Peterson and
Zion Morris.
The Saints closed to 7-6, but
Cam Finn singled home Morris and
Alex Crews in the seventh for a 9-6 XULA advantage.
Cohen Boyd had two of XULA's seven hits,
and
Robert Robinson reached base safely four times on a single and three walks.
Brandon Betancourt had three hits, Caimyn Holiday three RBIs and D'Artagnan Perez-Padron two RBIs for OLLU.
