2024 Red River Athletic Conference standings
SLIDELL, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana's
baseball season ended Saturday when Our Lady of the Lake swept the Gold Rush in a
Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader — 8-4, then 12-2 at Slidell High School's Tiger Field.
The Gold Rush (18-23 overall,
11-19 RRAC) needed two victories to earn the eighth and final berth for next week's RRAC Tournament.
Instead XULA finished ninth, 1 1/2 games behind eighth-place Jarvis Christian.
The Saints (27-22, 16-14) erased XULA's 1-0
first-game lead by scoring seven runs, six unearned, in the third. The Saints' Vincent Banda
hit a two-run double, and Alejandro Rodriguez hit an RBI triple.
XULA's
Miles Peterson was 3-for-4 in the opener
with a double, a home run and two RBIs.
Dillon Cousin had two hits, and Cousin and
Robert Robinson both had RBIs.
XULA led 2-0 through four innings of the second game —
Izaiah Jackson and Robinson scored unearned runs in the first — but
Jack Kalisky's two-run homer in the fifth tied the score, then the Saints went ahead to stay with an unearned run in the seventh.
The finale became a 10-run-rule game when OLLU scored nine runs,
including a Kobey Allison grand slam, in the eighth.
XULA's
Alexander Arnold, in first start of the season, pitched
five innings without allowing an earned run.
