NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana men's track and field broke the Red River
Athletic Conference Championships scoring record Saturday
and won its second RRAC team title in three years at Tad Gormley Stadium.
XULA scored 405 points,
139 more than the previous RRAC men's mark set by former member Wiley in 2017
and tied by Our Lady of the Lake in 2023. XULA's total exceeded
the Gold Nuggets' RRAC women's record of 392 Saturday.
The Gold Rush won 6-of-9 events Friday
and 9-of-11 Saturday. XULA's final-day champions were
Daunté Kelly in the 200-meter dash (21.83 seconds),
Jaheene Bell in the 400 hurdles (53.65),
Landan Gillespie in the 1,500 (4:14.95),
Lejaune George in the 5,000 (19:46.68),
Tele Jegede in the hammer (42.31 meters/138 feet, 10 inches) and the shot put (13.76/45-1 3/4),
Damien Trahan in the high jump (2.02/6-7 1/2),
Seth Alexander in the long jump
(6.58/21-7 1/4) and the 1,600 relay team of
Winston Young, Bell,
Juston Tweh and Kelly.
Overall Alexander and Jegede won three individual events apiece,
and George and Kelly won two apiece.
Men's high-point awards went to
Gillespie (track) with 39 points and Alexander (field) with 35.
XULA's second-day qualifying marks
for NAIA nationals were Trahan with a B-mark in the high jump and Bell with an A-mark in the 400 hurdles.
XULA's Yhann Plummer was named RRAC Coach of the Year.
