HAMMOND, La. - The Xavier men's track and field team started its outdoor season with a quality showing at the Andy Thiel meet, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
The Gold Rush took first in four events.
Ovane Williams claimed gold in the high jump with a 6-foot-6 clearance, while Collin Wright Jr. won the 800at 1:57.02, narrowly edging teammate Jaheene Bell, who was good for second in with a 1:57.13.
Williams was also strong in the 400 hurdles, taking third, but it was Jayden Hunter who claimed gold in the event with a time of 58.16. Hunter earned a podium in both hurdle events, taking third at 110 meters with a 16.37 effort.
The 4X400 relay team of D'Kirian Allen, Tremanie Hamilton, Karri Noel, and Bell claimed first with a time of 3:18.18.
In the field events, throwing specialist Mansur Ali was impressive, earning a silver in the hammer throw and taking fourth place in both the discus and shot put.
Kameron Whitrack placed third in the triple jump with a 13.23-meter best attempt.

Next up for the Gold Rush will be a March 20 and 21 visit to Lafayette for the Louisiana Classics.
