Noel reaches podium at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Xavier men's track team faced a loaded field at the Louisiana Classics, which featured competition primarily from NCAA Division I schools, but the Gold Rush acquitted themselves well throughout.

Freshman standout Karri Noel, already an indoor All-American in the 400, showed the outdoor version of the race was equally within his grasp, claiming a podium and a bronze with a 47.66 run.

Noel and sprinter Andrew Gillips also tied for 17th in the 200 with runs of 21.63, and Gillips placed 18th in the 100 with a 10.53 run.

In the field events, Ovane Williams was the star of the meet for Xavier, placing 7th in the high jump with a 6-foot-6.25 clearance.

Several other XULA athletes placed in the top 25 of their respective events. Jaheene Bell was  8th in the 800 with a 1:59.22, and Jayden Hunter was 8th in the 400-meter hurdles with a 58.68. Jalen Young took 20th in long jump with a 5.97-meter effort.

The meet began in true Friday with four field events. On the first day, Mansur Ali placed in the top-15 of the discus, his 43.13-throw earning 13th place. John Orgah took 20th in the javelin with a 35.70-meter best throw.

Full meet results are available on the AdkinsTrak site.

Xavier returns to action Saturday, March 28, with the fourth installment of the NOLA Triangular, which will take place at Tad Gormley Stadium.
