MOBILE, Ala. —
Xavier University of Louisiana's men's tennis season ended Wednesday
with a 4-3 loss to Middle Georgia in the round of 16 at NAIA nationals.
Guillermo Louis clinched
for the Knights (16-4) at No. 4 singles with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory against
Ivan Vazquez.
The Gold Rush (15-11) got singles
victories from
Dedric Ray,
Nereo Suarez and
VanDer Woody. Ray defeated Gianmarco Pittoti 6-4, 7-6 (7-4),
Suarez beat Daniel Garcia Suarez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, and Woody defeated Adria Pradepadua 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Woody and
Jered Wilson won 6-3 in doubles
against Garcia Suarez and Samyak Bajracharya. Woody, a sophomore, was the only Gold Rush player
to go 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles at this tournament.
XULA was ranked 10th in the final NAIA coaches poll and seeded 11th at nationals.
Middle Georgia was ranked eighth and seeded sixth.
It was the 15th consecutive
Gold Rush appearance at NAIA nationals — the longest streak by any XULA sport.
