        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Manuel Arias and Nereo Suarez advanced in men's singles and doubles Friday at the NAIA Gulf Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at City Park.
        Arias, seeded fourth in singles, defeated Texas A&M-Texarkana's Matheus Sibenal Fonseca 6-2, 6-0. Suarez, seeded sixth, beat TAMUT's Marc Gonzalez 6-4, 6-4.
        Joining Arias and Suarez in the round of 16 was teammate Dedric Ray, a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) winner against Our Lady of the Lake's Matis Nuziere.
        Arias and Suarez defeated Our Lady of the Lake's Caleb Olen and Matis Nuziere 8-2 to reach the doubles quarterfinals.
        The three-day event will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday with main-draw singles matches. Consolation singles will start at 10:15 a.m. Main-draw semifinals and finals will be played Sunday at XULA.
