ALEXANDRIA, La. —
NAIA No. 8 Xavier University of Louisiana won four singles matches Thursday
in a 4-1 men's tennis victory against Texas Wesleyan on opening day
of the LSUA Tournament.
The XULA men (9-7) will play their
final match of the event at 10 a.m. Friday against Texas A&M-Texarkana
at Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club, but the Gold Nuggets will compete through Sunday.
Nereo Suarez clinched for the Gold Rush
with his 6-4, 6-4 victory against Marco Salamanca at No. 1.
Ivan Vazquez won his 11th in a row — 6-3, 6-3 against Malte Jon Sommer at No. 3 —
Jacobi Bain beat Elliott Hoffman 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 2, and
Gabriel Velez defeated Luca Link 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.
Vazquez and Velez won
6-4 at No. 2 doubles against Hoffman and Sommer.
XULA won five of its last six dual matches.
The Rams (4-8) lost their sixth in a row.
