SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis lost 4-0 Saturday to Our Lady of the Lake
in the championship round of an NAIA unaffiliated group tournament.
The Gold Rush — 13-9 and ranked eighth in the NAIA —
will be considered for an at-large bid to the national tournament.
The NAIA will announce April 29 the 24-team field and pairings. XULA seeks a 16th consecutive bid to nationals.
XULA's only victory was at No. 1 doubles, where
Jacobi Bain and
Nereo Suarez defeated Kyllian Savary and Matis Nuziere 6-1.
The Saints clinched the doubles point when Aymeric Bruno and Luis Hernandez beat
Artur Yakubov and
Pedro Maggi 6-2, and Joao Santos defeated Yakubov 6-1, 6-4
on the fourth singles court to clinch the championship and an automatic bid to nationals.
OLLU, 17-1 and ranked fifth, won its 17th in a row.
The Saints denied XULA a fourth consecutive group championship; XULA beat OLLU in
the 2024 and 2023 finals.
