NEW ORLEANS - Xavier's baseball team put up its best defensive performance of the young season, but fell 4-1 to NCAA Division II opponent Morehouse in Sunday's finale of the Ron Washington Classic.
Xavier got a great combined pitching effort from Chad McKenzie and Francis Thorne, who struck out 6 and 8 batters, respectively.
Offensively, the Gold Rush struggled against an equally quality trio of Morehouse pitchers.
Reserve right fielder Matthew Adams went 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead XULA, with designated hitter Jayden Smith adding a double and Dredon Turner a single.
The Gold Rush remain at home for their next two games, which will take the form of a Feb. 14 doubleheader against Stillman.
