Xavier senior Nereo Suarez has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Male Tennis Player of the Week for March 16-22.
Suarez went 1-0 as a singles and doubles player. In XULA's only match of the week, a 6-1 win over No. 5 Missouri Baptist. Suarez defeated Luca Ebenriter, the No. 28 singles player in the nation, 6-3, 7-6 (7) at No. 1 singles. He partnered with Christian Sanchez to defeat Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns, the No. 5 doubles team in the country, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Suarez is currently ranked as the No. 7 singles player in the NAIA.
Suarez, partnered with Ivan Vazquez, is the No. 3-ranked doubles team in the nation. He is a native of Santa Fe, Argentina. This is his second player of the week award, and the third consecutive week that a XULA man has won player of the week.
XULA is 10-5 overall. The Gold Rush is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
