Dozen XULA athletes earn NAIA Spring Scholar Athlete honors

Wednesday, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that 12 Xavier student-athletes had earned Spring Scholar Athlete honors.

Six XULA teams were represented among the honorees, with Baseball leading the way with four selections: Broden Caton, Bryce Thomas, Cameron Camp, and Daelyn House.

Jaheene Bell, a multiple-event national meet qualifier, was joined by jumper Ovane Williams as Men's Track's two representatives, and women's track was represented by all-around stand-out Leojai Hibbert.

Men's and Women's Tennis also boasted multiple selections. On the women's side, all-conference selection McKenna Wheatley was honored, as was Sanai LeSure.

Nereo Suarez, one of the top-rated men's tennis players in the country as both a singles and doubles player, was chosen along with Pedro Pablo Maggi Ghirard.

Miya Covington of XULA Softball rounded out the selections.

To o qualify as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended their institution for at least one full year. This year, the list features an impressive number of student-athletes who have met these rigorous standards.
