THIBODAUX, La. - A XULA men's doubles team is already in the semifinals and a quartet of singles stars are on to the Round of 16 in the ITA Gulf Coast Regionals. 

The tournament, which began Friday and is being hosted by Dillard in conjunction with the Thibodaux Regional Wellness Center, features NAIA talent from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. 

Edilson Rosa and Fatih Sisic are among the final four teams in the men's doubles bracket following a busy-but-successful first day. In the Round of 16, the duo bested Our Lady of the Lake's Sergei Haug and João Castro. 

Later in the day, Rosa and Sisic defeated Alexi Khamrotau and Fedir Zalievskyi of Texas A&M Texarkana in the quarterfinals to set up a semifinal match with Loyola's Jett Nguyen and Luca Abati.  

Both men also had successful showings on the first day of singles competition. 

Rosa drew a first-round bye, then defeated Dillard's Tarique Bobia in the Round of 32. He will meet a player from a different in-city school, Loyola's Alfredo Gallegos, in the Round of 16. 

Sisic also drew a first-round bye, then defeated Dillard's Jaylon Chapman in the Round of 32 to set up a match against Artur Ibragimov of William Carey in the Round of 16. 

Two other Gold Rush men also built strong momentum on the opening day. 

Christian Sanchez, who last week won the Flight A singles tournament at the HBCU National Championships, continued his strong fall. After drawing a first-round bye, he defeated Ilyas Kouchari of Dillard in the Round of 32. He will play Sergei Haug of Our Lady of the Lake in the Round of 16. 

Martin Rivera drew a first-round bye before defeating Our Lady of the Lake's Pietro Guimaraes in the Round of 32. In the Round of 16, he will take on Texarkana's Khamrotau.

• Jan Markan drew a first-round bye, then fell to Texas A&M Texarkana's Matias Penaranda in the Round of 32. 

• Emmanuel Jebutu drew a first-round bye, then fell to Texarkana's Zalievskyi in the Round of 32. 

Men's Doubles

• Jebutu and Markan fell to Abati and Nguyen in the Round of 16. 

• Sanchez and Rivera fell to Dillard's Kouchari and Martin Sastre in the Round of 16. 

The ITA Gulf Regional Championships continue Saturday and will conclude Sunday.
