MOBILE, Ala. —
Lacee Ancar and
Charlene Goreau
were double winners Monday, and freshman
Yi Chen Pao earned her first collegiate
victory in Xavier University of Louisiana's 6-3 women's tennis decision over
NAIA No. 4 Brenau.
The Gold Nuggets (4-5), ranked 19th, earned their second victory
against a top-10 opponent — their most in a season since 2014. They have three victories
this season against top-25 teams. Brenau is 3-9.
XULA swept the doubles.
Dasia Harris and
Sha'Nel Bruins
were first to finish, winning the first five games of an 8-1 decision
over Kirsten Dickins and Elizabeth Bielicki on the third court.
Goreau and
Brandi Nelson defeated Patricia Recalde and Paula Rives 8-4 at No. 2
to notch their team-leading fourth doubles victory of 2017, and Ancar and
Emma Kranendonk made it 3-0 with an 8-3 victory against Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Rebecca Pijls,
the ITA's 22nd-ranked NAIA doubles team.
Ancar beat Dickins 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 — Ancar's
fourth singles victory in her last five matches —
then Pao clinched on the sixth court with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Bielicki.
Goreau scored the final XULA point with a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Mammetgulyyeva at No. 1 —
Goreau's third singles victory in her last four matches.
"We got off to a really good start in doubles,
and it carried over into the singles," XULA coach
Alan Green said. "Brenau
is better than they showed today, and I know it will be much tougher if we meet
them again down the road."
Both XULA teams will play William Carey at 3 p.m. Friday
at XULA Tennis Center. The Gold Rush are ranked No. 2 nationally, and William
Carey is ranked seventh (men) and 12th (women). New coaches polls will be
announced Tuesday afternoon.
