     MOBILE, Ala. — Senior Brandi Nelson scored for Xavier University of Louisiana Saturday in a 6-1 women's tennis loss to South Alabama.
     Nelson defeated Leslie Bustamante 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
     Also playing three singles sets was XULA senior Sha'Nel Bruins, who lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Laura Matuskova at No. 4. South Alabama did not drop a set in doubles or the other four singles matches.
     Both teams are 1-1.
     It was the first of six XULA duals this season against NCAA Division I opponents. The Gold Nuggets, ranked 19th in the NAIA, will visit DI Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The next home dual will start at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 against DI Nicholls State.
