NEW ORLEANS — For the 12th time in five seasons and the first time this year,
Xavier University of Louisiana has swept the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in-season volleyball
honors.
Kayla Black is Attacker of the Week,
Eva Le Guillou is Setter of the Week,
and
Jennifer Torres is Defender of the Week for Sept. 16-22.
The three Gold Nuggets, all juniors, helped their team go 3-0, all in
conference play, and improve to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in the GCAC.
Black, an outside hitter from Spring, Texas,
and a graduate of St. Pius X High School in Houston, hit .229 with 42 kills, three aces,
27 digs and three blocks in three matches. She had match-high kill totals in 2-of-3 competitions,
including 20 in a four-set victory at Dillard. Black had kill-dig double-doubles against Edward Waters and Talladega.
Le Guillou, from Velizy-Villacoublay, France,
produced 101 assists, four kills, 12 digs, two aces and six blocks in three matches.
Against Dillard she had 43 assists, three kills, an ace and a season-high-tying four blocks.
During the final set of the Dillard match, Le Guillou became the second XULA player to reach 2,000 career assists. Her total is 2,061.
Torres, a libero from Jacksonville, Fla., and a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy
and Florida State College at Jacksonville, produced double-figure digs in each of the three matches
and had only one error in 49 total receptions of serve. Torres finished her week with 35 digs, six assists
and three aces.
The GCAC awards are the first of the season for all three.
For their careers it's the first for Torres, the eighth for Black and a program-record 13th for Le Guillou.
XULA volleyball swept the GCAC weekly awards six times in 2017,
three times in 2018 and once apiece in 2015 and 2016.
XULA, the GCAC leader by a match over Dillard, will
travel to SUNO's The Castle for conference matches Saturday against Tougaloo at 1 p.m.
and SUNO at 6 p.m.
