XULA defeats Dillard 13-6 in flag football

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana intercepted two passes in the final 90 seconds and scored the winning points with about a minute remaining Friday in a 13-6 women's flag football victory against Dillard at Lafitte Greenway.
Nikayla Hill's 38-yard pass to Kennedy Jeffries put XULA ahead to stay. Hill then passed to Mia Burch for the 13th point.
A Kyra Deams interception in XULA territory set up the winning drive, and another pickoff by Adrianna Cheeseboro preserved the victory.
The longtime city rivals played two 15-minute halves with 80 yards between the goal lines. XULA led 6-0 at halftime after Jayla Facienne passed five yards to MyAsia DuBose for a touchdown — the conversion pass failed — but Dillard tied the score on Amira Gilford's 75-yard interception return for a touchdown. Dillard's conversion pass failed.
Women's flag football is a club sport at XULA.
