        ROME, Ga. — Juan Ramirez and Jacobi Bain were Xavier University of Louisiana's only main-draw winner during opening rounds of the ITA Cup tennis championships Thursday. They scored a 6-4, 6-4 men's doubles victory against Vitek Subert and Nathan Cooke of William Woods.
        Ramirez, a senior, and Bain, a freshman, are 7-1 as a team this season. They advanced to a 3 p.m. EDT Friday quarterfinal in the NAIA bracket against Georgia Gwinnett's second-seeded Daniel Czepielewski and Federico Bonacia, a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) winner against Federico Barbon and Roy Stepanov of Southeastern (Fla.)
        All three XULA women's entries were defeated. In singles, Georgia Gwinnett's Iryna Lysykh defeated Aisha Niyonkuru 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, and Montreat's second-seeded Stephanie Petit beat Kyra Akinnibi 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). SCAD Savannah's Alessia Piccoliori and Francina Llompart defeated Kareemah Muhammad and Valaine Clarke 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) in doubles.
        Niyonkuru will play Montreat's Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen in a consolation quarterfinal match at 10:30 a.m. EDT Friday.
