VANCOUVER, Wash. — Brian Tarus ran 8,000 meters in 32 minutes, 31.9 seconds Friday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana at the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships at Fort Vancouver National Historical Site.
Tarus' time is the fastest by a XULA man at nationals since 2018. The freshman finished 326th out of 332 runners.
XULA's other entrant, freshman Steven Wilson, placed 330th in 35:24.6. The Gold Rush did not qualify for team scoring.
Oklahoma City had the top two finishers — freshman Zouhair Talbi in 24:43.1 and sophomore Shimales Abebe in 24:56.6 — but Milligan, fueled by four of the top 25 scorers, won the team championship with 115 points. Saint Mary (Kan.) was second with 175 points.
Next for XULA will be indoor track and field season. For the men it will be their first indoor season since 2004.
