PENSACOLA, Fla. — Farah Baklouti scored Xavier University of Louisiana's only point Sunday — a victory against a ranked singles opponent — but West Florida won the dual match 6-1.
XULA (6-4), ranked third in NAIA women's tennis, lost to the sixth-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
Baklouti lost the first set against 23rd-ranked Karolina Silwanowicz but rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) victory.
West Florida (6-2) won the doubles point, but XULA's Lailaa Bashir and Angela Charles-Alfred led 5-2 against Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin when the Argonauts clinched.
Bonardi, the No. 1 singles player in NCAA Division II, defeated Bashir, ranked second in the NAIA, 6-1, 6-0.
XULA will drive east on Interstate-10 again this week to play four Southern States Athletic Conference duals in three days, starting with a 4 p.m. Thursday match against NAIA No. 18 Mobile.
